Community Integration Program

Studies at MBI Research Institute indicate that housing difficulties adversely impact the effective treatment of mental illness. Generally, individuals experiencing homelessness or housing challenges are not motivated to address their mental health issues while they lack the basic necessity of a dwelling place.

Program Scope

The Community Integration Program( CIP) assists mental health consumers in the District of Columbia with temporary housing, treatment services and job skills training.

Temporary Housing: The CIP rents housing units and provides eligible mental health consumers with affordable, temporary housing for up to six (6) months to help them move towards stability and recovery. Program participants are also linked with resources such as housing assistance services to help them move to long-term housing.

Treatment: CIP services include mental health treatment in a licensed facility staffed with experienced case managers, mental health professionals and coordinators who help individuals in the program work towards recovery.

Training: Through our Supported Employment program, CIP participants receive job skills training and coaching to build self-sufficiency and improve their earning power. They are also linked with resources such as job referrals to restore their livelihood.

MBI Research Institute screens all applicants to ensure that the most needy and eligible individuals are selected.

Short Team Program Outcomes:

  • CIP will provide temporary housing for 250 individuals within the next 12 months of operation
  • The employment rate for successful CIP graduates will be 60%
  • MBI Research Institute will partner with five (5) other interested non-profit organizations to replicates the CIP model in those organizations
  • The CIP is federally qualified and was launched with donations form various sources. MBI Research Institute continues to see funding from public and private sources to enable expansion of the program.
